A Conversation with Judge Patricia Barksdale

David Horrigan will be hosting a discussion on current e-discovery legal issues from the perspective of the Honorable Patricia Barksdale, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Florida, in advance of the UF Law E-Discovery Conference where Judge Barksdale will be a member of the Judicial Panel and Mr. Horrigan will serve as moderator.

Patricia Barksdale was sworn-in as a United States Magistrate Judge on November 1, 2013. Judge Barksdale received her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Florida. After graduating 2nd in her law school class, Judge Barksdale clerked for the Honorable Emmett R. Cox, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and later for the Honorable Timothy J. Corrigan, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. During her legal career, she has worked as an associate at a national law firm, where she specialized in commercial and employment litigation; as in-house counsel at a large corporation, where she negotiated contracts and specialized in labor and employment matters; and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida, where she represented the United States in hundreds of appeals before the Eleventh Circuit. She has served as Chair of The Florida Bar Federal Practice Committee, President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and President of the Chester Bedell American Inn of Court. She currently serves on the University of Florida Law Center Association Board of Trustees.

David Horrigan is discovery counsel and legal education director at Relativity. An attorney, award-winning journalist, and former legal technology industry analyst, he has served as counsel at the Entertainment Software Association, reporter and assistant editor at The National Law Journal, and analyst and counsel at 451 Research. A law school guest lecturer and legal media contributor, David has been cited in The American Lawyer, American Public Media, Bloomberg BNA, Corporate Counsel, JUVE (Germany), Legaltech News, The Wall Street Journal CIO Journal, and The Washington Examiner, and he has been cited in law reviews and journals of Emory University, Northwestern University, Yale University, and others. He is the author of the annual Data Discovery Legal Year in Review. He holds a juris doctor from the University of Florida, studied international law at Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands, and is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
